Dog Control Officer

We have an opening for the regular, full-time position of Dog Control Officer. The successful candidate will have completed Bylaw Compliance, Enforcement & Investigative Skills Level 1, supplemented with the completion of animal control courses. One year of experience as Dog Control officer or a related field is required and a valid Class 5 BC driver’s license. Candidates without the required qualifications may be considered in a development role.
 
You possess excellent communication and conflict resolution skills and an ability to deal effectively with the public, municipal partners, and government agencies with tact and diplomacy. You have demonstrated skills with humanely handling dogs, including those of an aggressive nature.
Reporting to the Bylaw Enforcement Officer, the Dog Control Officer is responsible for applying and enforcing the Regional District’s Dog Control Bylaw. This position will respond to public complaints regarding aggressive, at large or barking dogs, while ensuring a focus on animal welfare and public safety. The Dog Control Officer also acts as an ambassador to educate the public with respect to dog regulations.

This is a regular, full-time position (the work schedule is four consecutive 10-hour days followed by four consecutive days off) with a wage range of $26.30 to $30.23 per hour, depending upon experience and qualifications, as well as an extensive benefits package.
